2026 Pre-Smart-A-Thon Mixer
The Education Fund extends a special THANK YOU to Michael and Peter Smith of BOB SMITH TOYOTA, for once again sponsoring our Pre-Smart-A-Thon Mixer with the Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce. On Thursday, February 12th we gathered at the SMART window of the Toyota Showroom to kick-off the 2026 SMART CHALLENGE CELEBRATION. The gallery below shows photos from the mixer!

Students of the Crescenta Valley High School Robotics program explain that they will use the grant of $2,575 to purchase materials for a dedicated robot for the software subsystem of the high school robotics program.

Teri Rice, member of the Board of Advisors, presents students of the Crescenta Valley High School Robotics Program with a grant of $2,575 to purchase a software subsystem. Mrs. Rice is a member of the first graduating class of CVHS and enjoyed learning how the program has been very successful in especially encouraging young women to participate in STEM classes and activities.

Patty Steur, Member of the Board of Advisors, presents Dr. John Wick, principal of St. James Holy Redeemer School with a grant of $2,210. The grant will help the school establish the National Archery in the School's Program (NASP). The program is designed to help students develop discipline, focus and confidence while promoting safe physical activity.

Patty Steur presents Joanne Pingry, Director of Mission Advancement for the YMCA of the Foothills, with a grant of $3,330 to purchase BricQ Motion Essential and Prime Kits to introduce youth to the world of physical science and STEAM fields. Motion Essential serves grades 1-5 and Motion Prime grades 6-8. Kits will be used in the YMCA camp programs year-after-year.

Patty Steur presents members of the Board of Directors of Prom Plus with a grant of $1,800 to purchase equipment for use at various off-campus projects as well as the annual event itself. The event is designed to help students enjoy themselves in a drug-free, safe and supervised event that they find fun and memorable.

Jill Shah of the Crescenta Valley High School Aquatics Booster Club and Prom Plus explains to the gathering at Bob Smith Toyota/Crescenta Valley Chamber Mixer the importance of providing support for the programs that make such a positive difference for hundreds of young students.

Robin Goldsworthy, member of the Board of Advisors and Editor of the Crescenta Valley Weekly, presents Mat Schick, director of the Instrumental Music Program at Crescenta Valley High School with a grant of $2,940 to purchase 5 new cymbal and 3 new sousaphone cases needed to update their existing equipment. Traveling cases keep the instruments in good condition. Marching band uses both instruments in their field shows performed at football games, band competition, pep rallies and the Montrose Christmas Parade.

Leila Bell, member of the Board of Advisors, presents a grant of $1,000 to Tiffany Hirdler, the principal of Dunsmore Elementary School and Atsuko Minsloff. The grant will be used to help develop the "100 Mile Club," a national award-winning youth-focused program that uses running and physical fitness to promote social-emotional well-being. Students will, jog or run one mile (or more) a day, three times a week and by the end of the school year, they will have completed 100 miles.

Robin Goldsworthy presents Cindi Hatcher of the Hillside School & Learning Center with a grant of $3,475 to purchase updated textbooks and resources for two core subject areas - texts in physics and government/economics.

Leila Bell presents a matching grant of $3,901 to The Aquatics Booster Club of CVHS. It will be used to purchase two touchpads and two shot clocks. More than 200 students participate in the CVHS aquatics program.
