As I previously said, I try and support local fundraisers. The most recent one I had the chance to take part in was the Smart-Thon at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital on Friday. Organized by Mary Pinola, funds raised support the Mary Pinola & Crescenta Valley Chamber Education Fund, which has been around since the '90s and has given out more than $400,000 since then to the education programs throughout the Crescenta-Ca​ñada Valley.

I was part of the Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce team and our entry fee included a wonderful lunch provided by the hospital plus music and silly fun emceed by Mike Smith of Bob Smith Toyota and Sgt. Ryan Vienna of the CV Sheriff's Station. The main event is the trivia contest and though enthusiastic our team did not place in the top three.

But we had a lot of fun!
